If we have walked with the Lord for any length of time, then we are by now quite familiar with the mountain and valley experiences of that walk. The mountain top is a choice place to be. Our joy soars, hope abounds, friendships are many and troubles are few. Life is good. God is great!
But at some point we must come down the mountain. Sometimes we gently slide into the valley through an unwelcomed circumstance. Other times we come crashing down the side of it, flipping head over feet the whole way and find ourselves face down in the valley.
There is treasure to be found in the valley. Beautiful gems of life that we can’t get anywhere else.
The valley is a less desirable place. That’s a nice way of putting it. Valley’s can be uncomfortable to near unbearable. They are the darker places. The scary places. The very painful places. These are the times that we question God. When we are tempted to doubt. When we turn our eyes to him in desperation. When we wrestle with ourselves and even with God. We feel boxed in and we want relief. Why can’t we just stay on the mountain?! Ugh.
The bright spot is that in our deepest darkest hours, when we think we may come undone.. He shines His light into our situation. He is there with us. He’s always there, even when we can’t feel Him, He knows. He hears us. He has, He is and He always will be right there with us. There is treasure to be found in the valley. Beautiful gems of life that we can’t get anywhere else. Gems of peace, hope, gratitude, humility, maturity, compassion, selflessness, desire to serve others and many more. We must visit the valley to receive these treasures. Then with the greatest of joy, we will be equipped for every good work our Father has called us to. Our purpose. Our kingdom work. Giving away to others who are in the valley, what we so graciously have been given. Hope in Jesus Christ. The only light at the end of our tunnels!
“I pray that the eyes of your heart be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. “ Ephesians 1:18-19
If you find yourself in the middle of a valley and you are feeling hard pressed on all sides, without reasons to believe anything will change. When it is dark all around and our resources are exhausted.. when we have tried everything and prayed til we are blue.. Remember the hope to which we are called. It is not like ordinary hope that the world has to offer. It is a very special kind of hope. When all else has failed it is our ace in the hole. It is reserved only for us, God’s very own children.. It is our Supernatural Hope.
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:7-9
Press on beloved.. and be encouraged. He is with you now and forevermore!
