We can all agree that we live in a broken world that seems to be breaking more and more every day. We can’t turn on the news without being overwhelmed by tragedy, death, and devastation. It’s so extreme that our hearts are calloused and nothing shocks us anymore. When problems are too great we tend to do nothing because we don’t know where to start. I think Mother Teresa said it best when she said, “if you want to make difference in this world, if you want to promote world peace, then go home and love your family.”
It’s the little things we do that make the biggest difference. The choices we make every day sets the course of our lives. How we spend our moments, is how we spend our days. How we spend our days, is how we spend our lives. I read an article the other day about a man who was asked what he was doing by a friend. He responded with remarks regarding activity ahead and achievements behind. The friend, kindly responded, “No. You are making memories. Make them good ones.”
We aren’t promised tomorrow but we are given the gift of the present.
You are making good memories when you choose to treat others the way you would like to be treated. When you are generous with your time and your resources, you will be blessed. Jesus said it is greater to give than to receive. What we do matters and we will be remembered by the choices we make, how we treat others, and what are lives are devoted to. I can’t encourage you enough to treat every day as if it were you last. What memory can you make today that you will look back on with joy? Who do you need to forgive, who can you encourage, what can you do – no matter how small, to help repair our broken world?
Just like companies need mission statements in order to keep them on track – to remind them of their purpose and their direction, we too, need mission statements for our lives. I encourage you to sit down and write a mission statement for your life, then read it often. How do you want to be remembered? What is your purpose? How will you accomplish it?
Remember, You get to write the story of your life, so be intentional about making it a good one. Life is a precious gift and we don’t want to waste a single day being distracted by lesser things. We aren’t promised tomorrow but we are given the gift of the present. Never take that for granted.
God Bless you as you make good memories today.
